Reason #487,391 to buy a Mac
We have a G5 iMac. Here are some of the details…
1. It’s 5-6 years old (WAY out of any written or implied warranty)
2. It’s 4-5 models out-of-date
3. We did not buy this iMac from Apple, or an official reseller, but from an individual, who also got it from an individual.
4. The screen is rapidly going bad, and will probably be unusable within months.
But, the screen issue, is a “known issue” that Apple has, in the past, repaired for free. So I called. I told them the truth (the above facts). I was ready to namedrop (which I did, but it was unnecessary) or speak to a manager, but instead, a human being actually spoke to me on the phone, pulled some strings, and made it happen.
Where most companies would say “I’m very sorry sir, but we don’t do warranty repairs on older computers. If you’d like, I can put you in touch with sales, and they’d be happy to assist you in replacing this machine…”, Apple bent over backward to help me continue using an aging product that I did not purchase from them!
They seem to be more concerned that I remain a lifelong costumer.
I like that.
So, at 10:00 this morning, the old iMac is getting dropped off at the Apple Sore, where the LCD will be replaced for free. Thanks, Apple.
